In April we had a couple of gentlemen from CIS (Citycounty Insurance Services) walked us through crisis management for events.  John Zakariassen, CIS Senior Risk Management Consultant, and David Nelson, CIS Public Safety Manager, presented “Meet Prepared: Contingency Planning for Your Event.”

Here is a copy of the handout from that session: A Quick and Easy Emergency Plan Audit.

Have extra shoes in your closet?  Bring them to the next meeting! Starting in March and running through our April monthly meeting, we will be teaming up with the Shoeman Water Project.

The Shoeman Water Project is a national organization which collects donated shoes – any kind (heels, tennis shoes, flip flop etc for men, women and children) and exports them to the streets vendors in places like Haiti, Kenya and South America.  The funds from exporting the shoes are then used for clean water programs in those communities around the world.

The secondhand shoes are a valuable product for street vendors to sell at affordable prices.  The end users are people who do not have shoes and cannot afford to purchase new shoes.  The shoes protect the new owner’s feet from foot abrasions, parasites and mites.

Funds generated from the export of the shoes provide well drilling rigs, water purifications systems and hand pump repairs for people who thirst for fresh, clean drinking water.

We will have collection bins at the next meeting.  If you have any questions, please contact Wendy Puller at Mount Bachelor Village Resort, 541-388-7801 or wendy@mtbachchelorvillage.com.

The conference registration deadline has been extended to January 25th; however, the hotel reservation deadline is still January 19th to secure a room at the reduced block rate.  The full agenda is now available, as well as program descriptions and speaker bios.

    Registration Cost:

    • $100 - Planner Members
    • $300 - Sponsoring Supplier Member
    • $350 - Non-sponsoring Supplier Member

Highlights of the agenda include "Hotel Contract Negotiations" lead by Sean O'Day and JoAnn Ghelfi, where they explore the common issues that arise when planners and suppliers work together to finalize contracts.  Sean and JoAnn want to know if our planners have any examples of contract clauses that they have received from the hotel side that have caused issues for them.  They would also like to know if our suppliers members have any problems with clauses from their contracts that provide problems negotiating with planners.

Submit submit your feedback to JoAnn Ghelfi at jghelfi@orcities.org by January 28, 2013.

Send your Conference Registration Form to Kim Blanding, Conference Chair at GOSGMP, PO BOX 862 | Salem, OR  97308
