The Greater Oregon chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (GOSGMP) was chartered in 1989. Oregon is one of 32 chapters of SGMP, joined together in the mission of providing quality meeting planning education, training, and networking opportunities for meeting planners and suppliers. SGMP is a national association for individuals involved in planning government meetings and for the companies who provide facilities or services to those planners. Our membership includes employees of federal, state and local governments, as well as contract meeting planners, who manage government meetings on a full- or part-time basis.
SGMP is the only national organization in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to government meetings. All of our members pledge to uphold our code of ethics. SGMP is one of 31 organizations represented in the Conventions Industry Council (CIC) that promotes professionalism within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.
The Society is governed by a national board of directors who are elected every two years by their member peers and is managed by a headquarters staff in the greater Washington, DC, area. SGMP hosts a National Education Conference (NEC) every summer. Our chapters elect their own local leaders and hold monthly meetings in their respective areas.
