I began my second term as your chapter president on July 1, and I have to say, this year has been the year of change! We started out welcoming two new board members Treasurer, Michele Clifford and 1st Vice President, Joann Hendrix and the return of an Immediate Past President Lila Duncan, all are wonderful additions to our board.
With the excitement of creating something new means we must also say goodbye to some pretty amazing previous board members. Christina Caudillo, past treasurer was a rock star when it came to taking care of our finances, Ashley Golden, 1st vice president raised the bar in the quality of our education and Kara Null, immediate past president was my go-to person, adviser, and mentor. They helped me grow and want to be a better leader and mentor for the chapter. Their service on the board is greatly missed.
It’s official, we are 30 years old and in our prime as a chapter! As we began the next decade it is an opportunity to reinvent and revitalize who we are as a chapter.
We began our reinvention with an upgrade to our website in in September. The new website has some great features the will assist our chapter be more efficient, provide better communication and attract new members, but we are also experiencing growing pains as we learn the new system. We welcome your feedback!
Last year I said that each one of us can assist the chapter by teaching what we know about SGMP to potential members and that you learn much more about a topic when you teach someone else, it’s a win-win! You answered back by earning the chapter the Membership Growth Award -Highest Percentage Growth. Let’s do it again this year!
Debbie McCune, our membership committee chair, set a goal for the chapter to become 80 members strong by December 31, 2019, and to date we have 63 members! We have a ways to go, but if everyone brought in one new member we would surpass 80 members. Which reminds us that small contributions count as we continue to create a chapter strong, we need everyone to recruit new members, especially planners.
Consider inviting potential planners to attend a monthly meeting, which is complimentary. I’m confident that once a potential member experiences the great education, networking, and resources at a monthly meeting, they will be interested in joining SGMP. Reach out to Membership Chair Debbie McCune or any board member.
Looking forward to the journey of our 30th year!
